GSB ADOOR – A BRIEF HISTORY

18th OCTOBER 1987, A REMARKABLE DAY IN THE MILESTONES OF OUR GRAMASABHA.

It was on this day, all the members of about 30 GSB families in Adoor-Parakode area, convened by the initiative of Sri.Narayana Shenoy (Late) and Sri.N.R.Kamath (Late) , were assembled  at  Chamakala Puthen Madom,Parakode where the Excellency’s P.K.Damodara Kamath(Thuravoor), Payyanoor C.Ramesh Pai,V. Santhosh Kumar Prabhu (Kollam) and A.Sreedhara Pai (Kollam),who were the office bearers of GSB Mahasabha Kerala, blessed us with their gracious presence. From the benevolent, spectacular and informative talks of the  guests from Mahasabha,we were aware of the necessity of unity  and co-operation among us as well as other members of GSB community outside our Gramam. Thus, we unanimously decided to work together under an organization named Sri Venkateswara GSB Gramasabha, as a unit of GSB Mahasabha Kerala, for the betterment and all-round upliftment of our community, to fulfill the objectives and aims of the Mahasabha under the guidelines of our Parampoojaniya Dharma Guru H.H.Srimad Sudheendra Theertha Swamiji of Kashi Math Samsthan.

Sri.N.R.Kamath (Late), Sri.N.Mohana Rao, Sri.R.Raju (Late), Sri.N.Narayana Shenoy (Late), Sri.R.Ramachandra Bhakthan (Late) were elected unanimously as the President, Secretary, Treasurer, Zonal Representative, Exe.Memeber respectively. Sri.N.Radhakrishna Bhakthan and Sri.Mohan Das Bhakthan were the Swayam Sevak Pradhan and Upa-pradhans. And also Smt.B.Sarada Bai (Late) and Smt.K.S.Rajammal were the Vanitha Pradhan and Upa-Pradhan- we selected in the meeting.

The 30 families in the Adoor –Parakode Gramam are located around a distance of 3-6 km each other. Even though the lack of  common place  to get together and absence of a Purohit  drew us back in our Gramasabha work, we tried our best to continue our activities smoothly till 2001.Shortage of transport facilities and the financial positions of our members affected seriously in our works. Hence each family hosted the monthly meetings regularly.

The gramasabha work remained stagnant for a short period due to the issues of conflicts arisen among the Swamijis and also most of our forefront leaders had passed away  in the meantime.

THE KEY ACTIVITIES DURING THE PERIOD (1987-2001)

  • A Samooha Upanayanam (upaneeth 6 brahmacharies) -25/8/1989.
  • Two members got financial assistance from Mahasabha to build houses.
  • One member got marriage assistance from MAS of Mahasabha.
  • Contributed financial assistance to Kumari.Reshma (Haripad)-Medical Aid.
  • Upakarma and Navarathri Poojas every year along with other poojas.

  •  Konkani Day Celebrations every year.

·               Special classes, talks and discussions on various subjects relating to Konkani language, our heritage, culture, science, mythology and devotional aspects by eminent personalities.

Yet the gramsabha was stagnant for a short period, the co-operation, unity and brotherhood prevailed among our members. For a common cause we were one.
